My name is Arnab Chakraborty, and this is my weblog.

As you have come to this page so I am assuming that you would like to know something about me, ok fine, you may find this boring but just bear with me a little bit, here I’ll tell you something about my work, my passions and some other things that I like. My work details may sound too technical to you (coz I’m a Programmer) so if you don’t like reading that part then you can skip to the next paragraph.

I am a Professional Frontend Engineer based in Pune, India. I enjoy writing JavaScript, HTML and CSS. I also have some unhealthy affection towards Ruby, Python and Cigarettes . Personally, I like to call myself a BrowserMonkey (self invented term means a person who spends most of his time using Alt+Tab to jump from one browser window to another to check whether his code works in all browsers or not). Since late 2005 as I delved deeper into the Web Frontend I have gathered extensive knowledge in large scale client-side web development, web application security  issues(XSS, CSRF, JS Hijacking, SQL Injection etc.), event-driven programming, design patterns and other good coding practices like writing reusable and readable code. Meanwhile, I have used several JavaScript frameworks like Yahoo User Interface (YUI), jQuery and Prototype; by the way I have also had experience using Cometd (Dojo). In CSS I am familiar with Grid based designs, fluid layout techniques, CSS Sprites and other “COOL” stuffs like fixing IE6 (every morning I pray to God for the death of Internet Explorer 6); finally I also have good knowledge in Web App optimization techniques like reducing HTTP requests, gzipping and compressed JS etc. That’s all about my work details. Last but not the least I posses fair amount of experience in RoR (mainly “V” side which stands for View in MVC) and Django.

Okay…, it’s time to talk about some of my personal things – I like reading, hiking and cooking (you won’t believe but seriously I am really a good cook ), my favourite sport is Football and I am a die-hard fan of Manchester United (if you are a fan of some other club please take it easy). Once upon a time I used to be a good ‘Painter’ but since the day I have started writing software programs I have lost that skill completely I can’t even draw a single straight line these days, what an irony! By the way I love music too, though I don’t have any favourite singer in that sense because I almost listen to everybody, but I do have my favourite Music Composer and that is none other than A.R Rehmann, to me he is the best. Other things about me are I am an agnostic in terms of religion, a social outcast, unromantic (as per my girlfriend), liberal democrat, realistic, impatient, weird, dreamer, friendly and finally a Geek.

Now a bit about education I have a B.A in English not in Computer Science , actually I wanted to be a Geologist, but unfortunately did my graduation in English literature and after a lot of hassles finally landed up in Software Programming, you may be wondering what kind of beast is this guy, I sometimes think that too.

That’s it! You now know everything about me, but please don’t tell anyone about it and don’t even try to blackmail me later by saying that “I know what you wrote in last summer” .
